Great Appetizer or Meal: Taco Ring

taco ring

Super simple recipe that makes a great presentation (if you use a nice pan, unlike my 10 year old well-used pan =).

All you need is:

  • 1 pound hamburger (browned)
  • 2 TBL water
  • 1 package of taco seasoning
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese
  • 2 packages of crescent rolls (I use 1 1/2 rolls cuz that’s all the more my pan will hold)

Mix contents together and scoop on to crescent rolls:

Bake in oven at 375 for 20-25 minutes until brown.

Garnish with lettuce, peppers, black olives, carrots, sour cream & salsa.

40 below zero, seriously God is there a reason for this?

dsc00553-300x223 40 below zero, seriously God is there a reason for this?

While I’m waiting on God to answer my question about the 40 below degree weather having a purpose in this life, I decided to make a new centerpiece.  Soon this blog will be called “how I only decorate with pinecones and berries“.

Isabelle is doing quite well adjusting to us.  She has us pretty much trained at this point.  Well, except for that fact that I’ve never had an animal that needed CLOTHES, so it’s been quite the fashion show at our house.

She’s not quite sure about these booties and takes a lil offense to the hysterics that I can’t control when I watch her in them.  Excuse the very dark picture, I was drunk on puppy.

See, now these booties are a GOOD idea right??  Especially when it’s 40 below.  Well 43 below on Sunday, but God has not gotten back to me as to the purpose, so I am not at liberty to discuss this ridiculous weather. And no it wasn’t 40 below on the day I took THIS picture, no need to call human services for my child being outside in a sweatshirt only (I think it was a balmy 20 degrees that day).

And this coat?  Oh yeah, heart melt.  More fashion to come…stay tuned, I know you’re on the edge of your seat.dsc00561-300x195 40 below zero, seriously God is there a reason for this?

Christmas Recipe: Bing Bars (Cherry Fudge)

Bing Bars or Cherry fudge as some call it are my favorite Christmas time treat.

To start you will need:
2 cups sugar
2/3 cups evaporated skim milk
1/2 cup butter (unsalted)
1 cup small marshamallows (or 12 large ones)
dash salt

Over very low heat melt the evaporated skim milk, butter and sugar.  The trick to this is to make sure the sugar is completely dissolved before heating it up to a boil.  You may even  have to taste test (ah darn) to be sure it’s dissolved.  Just looking at it doesn’t always show that it’s not dissolved.

Then add the remaining ingredients and bring to a boil, once at a boil stir constantly and boil for 5 minutes.

Then add:
5 oz cherry chips (1/2 bag)
1 tsp vanilla

Pour into an ungreased  8 x 8 square pan (clearly I didn’t plan ahead cuz all my square pans were used so I had to use a round one - no problem - I personally took care of the round edges :P ).

Place in fridge (or cool spot) until firm.

Once firm, take it out to warm up a little so the chocolate top will stick to it (otherwise it will just be two parts — yummy parts, but not stuck together parts).

Then in a microwave safe bowl (glass preferrably) melt the following ingredients:
1 cup peanuts, crushed (I used a baggie and a rolling pin- but honestly there’s gotta be an easier way)
3/4 cup peanut butter
12 oz chocolate chips (a full bag)

Pour over the cherry mixture and place in the refrigerator til firm.  Cut into squares and ENJOY!

Holiday Decorating via Boyscouts Centerpiece

The boyscout centerpiece arrived on our doorstep last weekend and I was pleasantly surprised how pretty all the greenery was! I decided to sass it up a little…

Here’s what it originally looked like:

dsc00326-300x201 Holiday Decorating via Boyscouts Centerpiece

So I got out my extra pinecones, berries, ribbon, etc (most of the things I had from other project. I did have to buy some new berries ~ cuz I couldn’t find mine and ribbon).

I didn’t hot glue anything in so it will all come off right after Christmas is over (or however long the greenery lasts). And after:
