Well that only took two years….
When we first designed our house, we “thought” we wanted pillars inbetween the living and kitchen. When the house was first build, they just sort of sat in place, but not securely so I could see if I liked them before my husband took to the challenge of painstakingly painting them. Well, the little neighbor boy ran into one and broke the base. We bought a replacement base, but in the meantime, I changed my mind, so the pillars have been patiently waiting in the basement for me to decide WHAT I was going to do with them.
I had read in a Fung Shei article that if your kitchen is off your living room, you need to have a plant divider, so at first I was going to go with topiaries that were 7′ tall to fit right in that space. I could never find anything that felt right, so I went back to the pillars (by then, I had forgotten we had them LOL). My friend Jarie wanted to “see” what they would look like. She had been helping me pick out topiaries and we were getting frustrated. My husband brought up the pillars, took the picture and I fell in love all over again. We’ve lived in this house 22 mos and the pillars are FINALLY seeing their glory (notice they arent 100% secure yet, so no neighbor boys over for a few days — tee hee).
Here are the before and afters. One was taken at night, one during the day, I trust you to use your imagination.

I think I like the pillars if they actually fit right into the areas on either side. Is that doorway cut out for them to go there? Looks good!
Yes the house was built for pillars in THAT particular spot. LOL *thunks head hard*
